Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Pinventure ("we," "us," "Pinventure") collects when you use the Pinventure mobile app, the creator portal, or this website (together, the "Service"), how we use it, and who we share it with. Pinventure is operated by the trustee for the Filipe Family Trust (ABN 47 914 563 601), based in Tasmania, Australia, which is responsible for your personal information. If you have questions, contact us at hello@pinventure.app.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address, the public display name you choose, and (optionally) your country. If you turn on two-factor authentication, we store that it's enabled -- not your authenticator app's secret.
- Location. Pinventure only uses location while you have the app open -- never in the
background.
- While you're playing a riddle, your device's precise location is used to show how close you are, and is sent to our servers when you solve a riddle so we can check you're really there. We use it for that check only; we don't store it or build a location history.
- When you create a hunt, the city/area and riddle locations you set are saved with the hunt and shown to players.
- Camera and motion sensors. When you look for a hidden pin, the camera shows a live view on your screen, and your device's compass/motion sensors work out which way you're facing. None of this is recorded, uploaded, or stored -- it stays on your device.
- Photos you upload. If you add a cover image to a riddle, we store it and show it to players. Every uploaded image is automatically scanned for inappropriate content before it's saved.
- Content you create. Hunts, riddles, hints, ratings, and comments.
- Gameplay information. Hunts you join, play, and complete; riddles solved; hints revealed; treasure earned and spent; and your rankings.
- Purchase information. If you subscribe to remove ads or buy a private-hunt participant tier, Apple or Google processes the payment and our purchase provider (RevenueCat) tells us what you bought and whether a subscription is active. We never receive or store your payment card details.
- Rewarded videos. If you choose to watch a video to unlock a free hint or an ad-free hour, we give our ad provider (Google AdMob) your account ID and what the reward is for (for a hint, which hunt and riddle), so it can confirm to us that you finished the video. We keep a record of each reward granted.
- Advertising identifiers. On the free tier, Google AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show and measure ads. On iOS this only happens if you allow tracking when asked.
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, we store your device's push token so we can send you hunt updates.
- Error reports. If the app runs into an unexpected error, it sends us a report with the error details, the screen it happened on, and your account ID, so we can fix it.
- Launch updates. If you sign up on this website to hear when Pinventure launches, we store your email address and (optionally) your city.
How we use information
- To run the game: showing nearby hunts, checking you've reached each riddle, tracking your progress, awarding treasure, and running leaderboards and rankings.
- To keep Pinventure safe: reviewing hunts before they go public, generating the safety notes shown before each hunt, scanning uploaded images, filtering profanity, and enforcing our content rules.
- To process purchases, subscriptions, and rewarded-video rewards.
- To send account and hunt emails (for example, invites, review results, and activity on your hunts) -- you can turn most of these off in Profile → Notifications -- and, if you signed up for them, launch updates, which you can unsubscribe from in any of those emails.
- To show ads to free-tier players.
- To fix bugs, and to investigate abuse reports and enforce our Terms of Service.
What other players can see
- Your display name, country (if you set one), treasure total, and ranking.
- Hunts you create, shown with your display name as the creator.
- Your ratings and comments on hunts, and the date you completed a hunt on its leaderboard.
Your email address is never shown to other players. If someone invites you to a private hunt using your email address, we use it only to deliver that invite.
Service providers we share information with
We don't sell your personal information or share it with data brokers. We use these providers to run Pinventure, and each receives only what it needs to provide its service to us:
- Google Firebase -- sign-in, database, file storage, website hosting, and the backend that powers the app.
- Google Cloud Vision -- scans uploaded images for inappropriate content.
- Google Maps -- the maps inside the app.
- Google AdMob -- ads for free-tier players on public hunts (on the hunt list, between riddles, and after completing a hunt), plus opt-in rewarded videos. Private and team hunts never show ads.
- Anthropic (Claude AI) -- a hunt's content (its title, riddle text, and riddle locations) to write the safety notes shown to players and to help us review hunts. This doesn't include your account details.
- RevenueCat, with the Apple App Store and Google Play -- processes and verifies purchases and subscriptions.
- Resend -- delivers our emails from hello@pinventure.app, and error reports to our team.
- Expo -- delivers push notifications to your device.
- OpenStreetMap -- maps and place lookups in the web creator portal. Your browser loads the map images directly; place lookups are sent from our servers, not your browser.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our players or the public.
Children's privacy
Everyone confirms they're at least 13 years old when they sign up, and anyone under 18 confirms they have a parent or guardian's permission. We don't independently verify age. Pinventure isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at hello@pinventure.app and we'll delete it.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your account and hunt information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account yourself at any time from Profile → Security → Delete account. This schedules permanent deletion 30 days later, and signing back in before then cancels it. You can also ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@pinventure.app from the address on your account.
When your account is deleted, hunts you published that other people have played stay up (so their own history and reviews aren't lost), but your name on them is replaced with a generic placeholder, and everything else tied to your account is permanently deleted. We may keep limited records -- such as purchase and reward transaction records -- where we need to for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention reasons. To leave our launch-updates list, use the unsubscribe link in any of those emails.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, or to object to certain uses of it. To make a request, email hello@pinventure.app -- we'll respond within 30 days.
- Australia. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If you're not satisfied with how we've handled a request or complaint, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
- European Economic Area / UK. You may have rights under the GDPR (or UK GDPR) to access, correct, erase, restrict, or port your data, to object to certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority.
- California. You may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA to know what personal information we hold, to have it deleted, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We don't sell personal information. The only place device identifiers are shared for advertising is Google AdMob for free-tier players (see above), which on iOS only happens if you allow tracking -- you can change that any time in your device's settings, or email us to opt out.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including optional two-factor authentication for your account, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Where your information is stored
Our service providers store and process information outside Australia, including in the United States. By using Pinventure, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in those countries, under safeguards consistent with this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
